SCRIPT
Scene opens with Cynthia sitting behind
a desk (center stage) getting ready to sell tickets to the movie. Ronald, the usher,
is standing near stage left next to the "ENTER" sign. Ronald has his hands
behind his back and is rocking back and forth on his toes while he whistles a soft tune.
Ronald - (looks at his watch) - It won't
be long now, Cynthia. People will be arriving any minute. We are going to be
really busy today!
Cynthia - (looks at her watch and is
nervous) - Ahhh! You're right. It's almost time. I wonder if we'll have
enough tickets?
Ronald - (laughs) - We've never run out
of tickets before, I don't think we will run out today.
Cynthia - (sighs) - I hope you're right.
Don't forget, we've never had a movie this popular before.
Ronald - I know it! Have you seen
the movie yet...it's really, really good!
Cynthia - I did see it, and it was the
most amazing movie. It's incredible!
Ronald - (rubs his hands together) -
Just think, we could have hundreds of people today!
Cynthia - (looks flustered) - What a
thought...oh oh, here they come! Get ready!
Enter a Mother and two children.
Mother - (to Cynthia) - I would like
three tickets please.
Cynthia - That will be $15.00.
Mother - (hands Cynthia the money and
Cynthia hands her three tickets) - Thank you!
Boy #1 - Can I have some popcorn, Mom?
Girl #1 - Can I have some candy to eat
during the movie?
Mother - Yes, but first let's give the
man our tickets.
Mother and two children walk over to
Ronald and hand him their tickets.
Ronald - (takes tickets and smiles)
Thanks, go right in. Enjoy the movie kids!
Mother and two children walk offstage.
Enter four (or as many as you want)
people of varying ages. They stand in a straight line waiting to buy tickets.
Person #1 - (looks at Cynthia and hands
her money) One ticket please.
Cynthia - (takes money and hands over
the ticket)
Person #1 - Thanks!
Cynthia - Next!
Person #1 - Walks over to Ronald, hands
him the ticket.
Ronald - Go right in!
Person #1 - Walks off stage.
Person #2, #3, and #4 - (Person #2 looks
at Cynthia and hands her money) Three tickets please.
Cynthia - (takes money and hands over
the tickets)
Person #3 - (takes ticket from Person
#2) This is going to be great!
Person #4 - (takes ticket from Person
#2) I can't wait to see this movie.
Person #2 - I've seen it twice already
and it's the best movie I've ever seen...you're gonna love it!
All three walk over to Ronald and hand
him their tickets.
Ronald takes the tickets, smiles, and
says, "Go right in."
All three walk off stage.
Thomas walks on stage, looks at Cynthia
and ignores her. He looks around, sees the entrance to the movie and tries to walk
past Ronald.
Ronald stops him.
Ronald - May I see your ticket, please?
Thomas - I don't have a ticket.
Ronald - You can't go in to see the
movie without a ticket.
Thomas - No ticket.
Ronald - Yes, just walk over there
(points to Cynthia) and buy a ticket.
Enter Sam - He walks over to Cynthia and
buys a ticket. He turns and takes a couple of steps toward Thomas. He stops
and listens to the argument.
Thomas - (continues to argue with
Ronald. Crosses his arms over his chest and looks at Ronald) - I don't need a
ticket. I think everyone who wants to see a movie should be able to get in for free!
Ronald - (folds his arms over his chest)
Look sir, I don't make the rules. I just follow them. You have to have a
ticket!
Thomas - No I don't!
Ronald - Yes, you do!
Thomas - (stomps his foot) No, I don't
need a ticket!
Ronald - (stomps his foot) Yes,
you do!
Sam - Excuse me.
Thomas - (jumps up and down) No I don't!
Ronald - (jumps up and down) Do too!
Sam - ( a little louder this time)
Excuse me.
Thomas - I Do not!
Ronald - YES! YOU HAVE TO HAVE A
TICKET!
Thomas - I don't care.
(sticks his tongue out at Ronald and give Ronald a raspberry pfffft) - I will not buy a
ticket!
Sam - ( taps Thomas on the shoulder)
Excuse me.
Thomas jumps when Sam taps him.
Thomas - What do you want?
Sam - (holds out his ticket) I want to
give you this.
Thomas - What is it?
Sam - It's a ticket.
Thomas - I don't need a ticket. I
don't want a ticket. I should be able to go in for free. Go away!
Sam - Really, sir. If you don't
take the ticket, you will miss the movie...and besides, it's free. I'm giving it to
you.
Thomas - For the last time (stomps foot
again) I DON'T WANT A TICKET! I DON'T NEED A TICKET!
Sam - (shakes his head sadly and walks
past Thomas and hands his ticket to Ronald)
Ronald - (takes ticket) Go right in sir,
and enjoy the movie.
Thomas - Tries to walk past Ronald and
follow Sam into the movie.
Ronald - For the last time, sir...If you
don't have a ticket you can't get in.
Thomas - Fine! I didn't want to
see this movie anyway.
Thomas walks past Cynthia, and stomps
off stage.
Ronald and Cynthia look at each other.
Ronald - Why didn't he just take the
ticket? That nice man was going to give it to him for free!
Cynthia - I have no clue. What a
shame.
Ronald - (sighs) He doesn't know what
he's missing.
More people line up to buy tickets.
Cynthia - (sighs) Next!
(fade to black)
